Chan Wai Man γνωστός και ως Michael Chan γεννήθηκε
στις 10 Ιουλίου 1946 στο Χονγκ Κονγκ. Από
μικρός ασχολήθηκε με διάφορες πολεμικές
τέχνες όπως βόρειο και νότιο kung fu πυγμαχία
και muay thai. Για αρκετά χρόνια ασχολήθηκε
επαγγελματικά με την πυγμαχία και το
kickboxing και έγινε πρωταθλητής Νοτιοανατολικής
Ασίας. Ήταν προσωπικός φίλος του Bruce
Lee, και έχει μια τεράστια επιρροή από
αυτόν, θεωρεί τις παραδοσιακές πολεμικές
τέχνες άχρηστες για πραγματική μάχη
και πιστεύει ότι η πυγμαχία το kickboxing
και το thaiboxing είναι πολύ καλύτερα. Ήταν
αστυνομικός στο Χονγκ Κονγκ για δύο
χρόνια, τον έδιωξαν από το σώμα όταν
έμαθαν ότι ήταν μέλος της Κινέζικης
